Let’s make 2021 a year to celebrate! The Pātaka Foundation and Director of Pātaka, Reuben Friend, invite you to a cocktail gala with artist Yuki Kihara, Aotearoa New Zealand’s artist for the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2022.
Enjoy the best art, wine, food, drinks and music. You’ll experience Yuki’s exquisite siapo kimono in her solo exhibition サ-モアのうた (Sāmoa no uta) A Song About Sāmoa and enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into her Biennale Arte 2022 exhibition.
La Biennale di Venezia is the world’s largest and most prestigious international contemporary art exhibition. Yuki Kihara will be the first Pacific, the first Asian and the first Fa’afafine artist to represent New Zealand. The New Zealand project is curated by Natalie King with Pātaka’s Ioana Gordon-Smith as the Assistant Curator.
A New Zealand citizen of Japanese and Sāmoan heritage, Yuki’s work is held in major galleries here and around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the British Museum and the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
