A Bloody Encounter

Spoiler alert. Everybody dies.

15 November - 8 December 2019, Toi Gallery

A national art protest in response to the NZ Government spending $20 million on the First Encounters 250 “commemorations”.

We are drawing attention to the continuing racist impact of colonisation on whānau, hapu and Iwi Māori, and the failure off successive Governments to address it.

The commemorations will not be an honest account of the impacts of colonisation and encourage and empower false narratives. The “commemoration” excludes pre-colonial history to the detriment of Maori and Pasifika people.

New Zealand. Eliminate racism.
Tagata Tiriti support our kaupapa.
Tangata Moana, join us in this korero and the impact begun by Cook’s voyage.

And finally, New Zealand Government, address the racism that occurs in your name and within your own Government agencies.

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata
