Remembering, Reflecting, Reconnecting, join the Pātaka team this Matariki as we align with Pōhutukawa, the star that honours those who have passed. This year's programme invites our visitors to reflect on the past, connect with loved ones and embrace the promise of the year ahead.
Discover stories and share korero with Te Rauparaha Horomona, alongside Robert McClean, principal advisor for Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira, who is leading the collaboration for the restoration of Te Awarua o Porirua under the Porirua Harbour Accord – Te Wai Ora o Parirua.
Join Wiremu Grace, creator and designer of Atuatanga, a virtual reality immersive experience that allows you to see, hear and feel the journey of the Atua. www.atuatanga.com
Currently showing in the Toi Gallery Artist, Apex the Artist will be creating Matariki-inspired face painting for Tamariki. Check out her current exhibition, Ngā Atua O Matariki https://pataka.org.nz/whats-on/exhibitions/nga-atua-o-matariki/
Write a message, memory or reflection that adds to our waka installation. Created as a place of remembrance and connection, the waka will grow throughout the Matariki season as visitors share thoughts of loved ones and moments that continue to guide them.
Gather with friends and whānau in our courtyard, and enjoy live music featuring local Ngāti Toa duo Ocean, Trey Ropata and emerging artist UTA.
Take home a native seedling grown by the Porirua City Council Nursery. These special plants reflect the themes of growth, renewal and caring for the natural world, carrying the spirit of Matariki beyond Pātaka and into your own garden.
