Nestled in the heart of Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, Tokelau is a homeland of three coral atolls: Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo. Small in land, yet rich in faith, culture, family and identity. In 1926, Aotearoa New Zealand assumed the administration of Tokelau. One hundred years on, 2026 marks a century of this complex and enduring relationship. In this exhibition one hundred years of history, journeys, and stories are explored from the perspective of Tokelauans in Porirua.
This exhibition welcomes all, but at its beating heart belongs to our children. Through sight, sound and discovery, the exhibition honours the pioneers of those who came before, the sacrifices that shaped lives, and the cultural heritage carried forward.
