The ideas explored in these sculptures have grown and shifted throughout Stewart’s practice – touching on motherhood, religion, sexuality and spirituality – always retaining an investigation of the feminine relationship to nature and the body. The twisting stems and fronds of the work in She Held a Rivertake on biological association of arteries and blood vessels connecting and feeding the body.
This body of work has been eight years in the making. Each work is carefully hand sanded to achieve a crystal-clear finish.
