Our colouring competition invites you to bring to life Tāne Mahuta, the Māori God of forests. Tāne separated his parents, Ranginui and Papatuānuku, allowing light into the world and enabling the forest to flourish. As we move into a new season, we reflect on the role of Tāne in nurturing life in Aotearoa. As you colour, remember the vibrant ecosystems that surround us. Let this influence your choice of colours!
The winning entry will receive a kete filled with yummy treats for the new season and the artwork will be displayed at Pātaka Gallery.
Winners advised on Monday 28th April.
Come and join us on a Koru quest as we search for new beginnings at Pātaka Gallery. Hunt through our exhibition spaces and search for all the hidden koru symbols. As you explore the gallery, reflect on the idea of new beginnings in your own life. This could be starting a new sport, or a piece of artwork, maybe you want to learn a new recipe to cook for your whānau. Come on a journey through Pātaka gallery and let our exhibitions inspire you to see things with fresh eyes.
At the end of your journey, bring your completed treasure hunt to our Reception desk to claim your own special treasure.
Happy hunting!
Celebrate the beauty of the changing season by creating a sun catcher using flowers and leaves. Take a nature walk around many fabulous Porirua parks and collect fallen leaves, petals and small flowers. Discuss the different types of plants you gather with your whānau and how the changing season affects the colours you see. We will also have a good collection of leaves and flowers by the Pātaka team.
Hang your sun catcher in a window and let the sunlight shine through as a lasting reminder of the beauty of nature and the changing seasons.
Join our Educator for some reflective time in the exhibition Waiora by Hemi Macgregor. We will take time to think about how we are connected to the natural world and each other. Then using inspiration from the exhibition, we will create an artwork that uses the night sky as a starting point.
