11am: Kaituhi Matawhao: The Craft of Story Writing.

Legendary writer Patricia Grace has been a bastion of Māori writing for decades. Anahera Gildea joins Patricia in an intimate conversation about the craft of writing – how has it evolved, how has she perfected voice (whether character or narrator), what is her favourite literary device? Take advantage of the chance to listen, learn and be inspired by one of the foremost pou of writing in Aotearoa.


12pm: Kaituhi Mataaho: Writing for Children

Children’s stories are the heartbeat of our literary future; crafting stories that reflect their limitless potential is something we all have a stake in. Come and share space with four Māori authors as they kōrero about their passion for enriching the imaginations of our tamariki, and how you can too.

2.30pm: Kaituhi Niho Taniwha: Story Sovereignty

From subverting literary rules to publishing exclusively through Māori hands, listen to some of the Māori writing realm’s boldest thought leaders as they discuss the practice of story sovereignty in their own work.  How does story sovereignty become the result of what we do, not just the ideal we are always advocating for? Come along to this wānanga and find out.
