24th Annual Wallace Art Awards 2015

The Annual Wallace Art Awards aim to support, promote and expose New Zealand contemporary art and artists. Sir James Wallace established the Annual Wallace Art Awards 24 years ago. These Awards are the longest surviving and largest annual art awards of their kind in New Zealand, with a value amounting to over $195,000. The four winners receive international residencies at prestigious Fine Arts institutions in the US and Switzerland. Many works by Award winners and finalists are purchased by the Trust each year to add to the Wallace Arts Trust Collection with now numbers over 7,000 pieces.

This year the Wallace Arts Trust received 531 entries from which 85 entries were selected as finalists. From the finalists 50 have been chosen for the Award Winners & Travelling Finalists exhibition that will be presented at Pātaka.

The Wallace Arts Trust Paramount Award winner for 2015 was Visesio Siasau. His work titled Tongan Tapa Cloth , 2014 was made with Tongan customary pigments and dye on bark cloth measuring over 4 metres wide by 18 metres long.
