Kirsten Sutherland - Hex

Kirsten Sutherland – Hex 28 February - 23 March 2014

This collection of digitally embroidered hex signs is a continuation of Kirsten Sutherland’s practice exploring religious symbolism and spiritual protection. Traditionally hex signs were painted on barns by new settlers in Pennsylvania. Hex signs are based on ancient sacred geometry that attracts good fortune and protects against evil. Although hex signs are considered to be “spells” they are aligned with Christian practice and are used for positive gain only.

These embroidered hex signs are based on the traditional format of the most common hexes. They are intended to draw good luck into the home and repel negative spirits. The embroideries have been blessed during a special hex ritual.
