Pleiades: A Woven Narrative

In 2008, Patricia Armour created Dance of Pleiades, a tapestry based on the constellation of The Pleiades. Since then, Patricia has developed a further series of work based loosely on the origin story of the Pleiades constellation, with a contemporary twist, and a few deviations along the way.

There are many versions of the story of the Pleiades. One version from Greek mythology tells how the seven nymph sisters, known as the Pleiades, were turned into doves and sent into the heavens to become stars. While designing and weaving her portrayals of the nymphs, Patricia became immersed in the face, form and dress of women.

In Pleiades: A Woven Narrative, you will find hints of experimentation, Greek mythology, the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites, and Patricia’s love of weaving.

Patricia Armour has been weaving tapestries for over 30 years. She has exhibited widely in New Zealand and overseas, including USA, Italy, Austria, Ukraine, Australia and UK, and has work in private collections in the UK, USA, Japan and New Zealand.
