Robyn Parker is weaver and Pam Mundell is a painter; both with strong connections to the Pāuatahanui area. The inlet’s changing colours, the crumpled paper hills to the north which reflect the light in so many amazing ways, the harakeke, the reeds, and the many birds that make this unique place their home are just some of the aspects of Pāuatahanui that inspire these artists to paint and to weave. They’ve approached their shared subject from two perspectives, in two mediums, to create artworks that move from traditional craft, through a weaving of the two methodologies, to traditional landscape painting. In so doing they’ve created an exhibition that attempts to bridge the art/craft “divide”.
