Pataka's first solo exhibition of paintings by Séraphine Pick brings together a selection of her finest, rarely seen portraits spanning 19 years of her practice. The unifying subject of this exhibition of works is Pick's consistent exploration of the human condition through the rendering of an intimately observed likeness. Pick's rare ability to see what lies beneath the superficial and render it with restraining yet consummate skill imbue her portraits with an intense feeling of the humanity of the sitter. The majority of the paintings in this exhibition are on an intimate domestic scale and nearly all have been loaned to Pataka from private collections, including the artist's own.
