Anneke Borren
Anneke arrived in Wellington in February 1963 as a 16-year-old Dutch immigrant. The following year she became a member of the Wellington Potters Association, where she had the opportunity to meet Helen Mason, Juliet Peter, Roy Cowan, Flora Christeller and Barry Brickell. To Anneke, these potters represented the New Zealand pottery pioneer spirit. Working with clay provided Anneke with an opportunity to build her own cultural identity in clay.
Jenny Shearer
Jenny’s work is centred on the Urban Ritual Vessel – “a sort of New Zealand approach combined with a touch of Japanese aesthetic”. These works include teasets, bowls, jugs and family groups of harmonious vessels. Jenny was mentored by Barry Brickell and Helen Mason over the course of 12 years spent in the Coromandel with fellow potter and husband David.
Pamella Annsouth
Creativity runs in Pamella’s family. Her father sowed the seeds of creativity for Pamella and her two sisters by creating zoos full of plasticine animals. Over the course of her creative career Pamella has undertaken freelance work in a number of disciplines including stage design and illustration. In the mid 70s ceramics became her focus. She loves the medium for its tactile nature and suggestiveness, and finds deep expression in manipulating the clay.
