The Maasai and Kamba communities of Emali, Kenya, are increasingly hit by debilitating droughts that affect their livestock and crops.
Maka Emali is the community development initiative they have chosen as an alternative way to survive. Drawing on their rich cultural heritage, groups of craft artists meet regularly to coordinate and create beautiful craft.
The Maasai are famous for their distinctive, colourful fabric and beading. They are also firmly rooted in tradition which guides their daily life.
The Kamba are proud Bantu speakers who are determined to preserve their Central African traditions for future generations. Their sisal baskets are world renowned.
Together they are Maka Emali.
