This scheme is a partnership between Porirua City Council and Creative New Zealand that supports and encourages local arts activities.

What is the creative communities scheme?

Creative Communities Scheme supports and encourages local arts activities. It is a partnership between Porirua City Council and Creative New Zealand. Each year Creative New Zealand provides funding to city and district councils to distribute in their area. Any individual, group or organisation can apply.

Closing dates

There are two rounds per year in April and October

The Closing dates for 2025 are yet to be finalised.

What we fund

Your project must take place in Porirua and have an arts focus.

It also needs to meet one or more of the three funding criteria:

  • Participation - create opportunities for local communities to engage with, and participate in local arts activities
  • Diversity – support the diverse artistic cultural traditions of local communities
  • Young people – Enable young people (under 18 years) to engage with, and participate in the arts

  • Troy Hunter Day, Porirua Poets Corner – Spoken words from the Pacific, $3,000.00
  • Java Dance Theatre, The Tantrum and Honest Conversation Porirua Schools Tour, $1,715.00
  • Seems Singh, Kavitaein (means Poetry) - Echoes of the Fiji Girmit Heritage, $1,418.00
  • Virtuoso Strings Charitable Trust, Dancing with Strings, $6,248.00
  • Pacific Connection Choir, Porirua Community Singing Workshop and Performance, $2,500.00
  • Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand, Te Mana o Te Pounamu: Creative Journey for Muslimah Youth, $3,900.00
