Nau mai, hare mae ki Porirua City. We invite you to celebrate Matariki at Pātaka Art + Museum where there will be fun for the whole whānau.

11am: Naadohbii curator and artist exhibition floor talk with Pātaka Lead Curator Ioana Gordon-Smith and Senior Curator Museums Victoria, Kimberly Moulton

Whānau craft: help fill the Pātaka kupenga.

10am to 11.30am

Ngā pāpaka o Waitā.
Ages 5+

Make your own maramataka and learn about the lunar calendar.

To prepare for the New Year, let’s fill the kupenga (net) of Waitī and Waitā by making your own creature creation. All ages.

Kete Kai

Make a paper kete for your Matariki harvest. Ages 5+

Ngā Pāpaka o Waitā

Make a pāpaka (crab) puppet from the ocean of Waitā. Ages 5+

Kanapu Matariki

Decorate and make your own kanapu (paper lantern) to see in the New Year. Ages 8+

Illuminate the stars

Glow-in-the-dark colouring of our Matariki stars, Waitī and Waitā. All ages.

Ngā Puāwai o Matariki

Create a posy of new blooms to gift to a loved one this Matariki. Ages 8+
