She Held a River

Rebecca Stewart

26 JAN –10 MAR 2024 Toi Gallery

Rebecca Stewart uses artificial flora and fauna encapsulated in, and emerging from, transparent resin to create lush sculptural works.

The ideas explored in these sculptures have grown and shifted throughout Stewart’s practice – touching on motherhood, religion, sexuality and spirituality – always retaining an investigation of the feminine relationship to nature and the body. The twisting stems and fronds of the work in She Held a Rivertake on biological association of arteries and blood vessels connecting and feeding the body.

This body of work has been eight years in the making. Each work is carefully hand sanded to achieve a crystal-clear finish.
