Lines of Sight

Elisabeth Vullings

31 March – 30 April | Toi Gallery

An intricate exhibition by Kāpiti artist Elisabeth Vullings investigating the history and construction of lighthouses in New Zealand.

Elisabeth uses architectural drawing combined with mixed media painting to create detailed compositions set within recycled frames. Precise construction lines are etched and drawn into the work surface, while the landscapes are organically hand-formed using collage.

The resulting work is multi-layered, translating as recognisable lighthouse forms which upon closer inspection reveal a complexity in detail, linework and texture that offer a more schematic and abstract interpretation.
