CHANCE ENCOUNTERS: By Simon Mark

Simon Mark’s photographs explore the aesthetic possibilities inherent in chance encounters, seeking to capture the eruption of contradiction in representations of the real. 1 Dr Simon Mark's art practice has spanned painting, painted photographs and his current focus on non-figurative photographic works. His most recent exhibition was at Art Heritage Gallery in New Delhi In April 2014. Previous exhibitions include those at Expressions in Upper Hutt, Pataka, the British Council gallery in New Delhi and in Nepal.  Mark curated, with Ralph Regenvanu, the exhibition New Traditions: Contemporary Art of Vanuatu , which toured public art galleries and museums in New Zealand and Australia over the period 1999-2001. He has a doctorate in cultural diplomacy through the University of Auckland, completed in 2008, and currently works at the College of Creative Arts at Massey University in Wellington. 1.
